wonho chungYou know it’s a truly globalized world when a comedian who is of Korean-Vietnamese origin entertains an Arabic-speaking audience entirely in Arabic. Wonho Chung is this comedian. Chung, born to Korean and Vietnamese parents, was raised in Jordan and is fluent in five languages including English and Arabic. He has previously toured with the Axis of Evil comedy tour and has performed in over 27 shows in the MENA region. Watch him perform a stand-up comedy show in Arabic on Saturday at the Qatar National Convention Center, doors open at 8pm for an 8.30pm show. St. Regis Doha is presenting the third concert in their Encore! series on Friday evening at 7pm. This concert will feature Latin American and Spanish music with Mexican guitarist Mauricio Diaz Alvarez, tenor Neil Latchman and pianist Amira Fouad. The musicians will perform music by renowned Latin American artistes, Ernesto Lecuona and composers Maria Grever and Hector Villa-Lobos, among many others. The performance will take place on Friday at 7pm. Regular seats will be priced at QR190 including a grape beverage or a mocktail; VIP and VVIP seating is available for QR395 and QR795 respectively. Experience Beethoven’s Pastorale Symphony that the maestro described as “more the expression of feeling than painting” conducted by renowned American conductor James Gaffigan. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 in F major will also be part of the evening’s performance. Gaffigan has previously worked with leading orchestra and opera houses throughout Europe and made his Vienna State Opera last season with La Bohème. The Richard Johnson Quartet featuring Brianna Thomas is performing its final weekend at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha. Richard Thomas was instructed by some of the world’s finest jazz musicians and has studied at some of the world’s most esteemed institutions of music. The Quartet will perform at Jazz at Lincoln Center at the St. Regis Doha every night including Thursday and Friday at 9pm, 10.30pm and midnight and on Saturday at 9pm and 10.30pm.

Dinner and snacks are available between 7pm and 11.30pm. Although there’s no entrance fee, there is a minimum cover charge from QR250 that applies on Thursday and Friday except for VVIP seating. As part of the DFI UK Cinema Showcase, the Doha Film Institute is screening The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel on Thursday at 7pm and on Friday at 4pm and 7pm at the Museum of Islamic Art Auditorium. Workshops, Exhibitions and Fairs

The Doha Trade Fair is coming to town once again. Opening on Wednesday at the Doha Exhibition Center, the fair will be open until July 6. Find everything you might ever need or just simply indulge your sight in things that you may have never heard about or seen before. From little curios to household items, everything will be under the giant roof of the Exhibition Center. In addition, there will also be an Entertainment Tent where live shows, music, two restaurants, cultural activities and competitions will provide a glimpse into traditional Qatari festivities. Kids will be able to enjoy face painting, entertainment by mascots and inflatables as well as a parade that will begin at 2pm everyday. The exhibition will run from until 10pm on all days. Take a short course in the Fundamentals of Digital Photography on Friday (4-7pm), Saturday (6-8.30pm) and Sunday (6-8.30pm) organized by My Absolute Shot. LAS Fashion, the fashion label founded by Qatar-based Bangladeshi-Canadian fashion designer, Layla Asjar Siyabi is organizing a Fashion Show titled ‘Raising Hope for Bangladesh’. The fashion show aims to raise funds for victims of one of the Savar building collapse in April 2013, one of the deadliest structural failures in Bangladesh.
