Calligraffiti, Doha-style

Calligraffiti, Doha-style

We pass by the tunnel on Salwa Road to catch a glimpse of French-Tunisian graffiti artist eL Seed at work.

The long wait for Salwa interchange to become operational may well be worth it. And the hours we will spend driving through those tunnels may not be so tiresome after all, given what we see of eL Seed’s work.
eL Seed was commissioned by Qatar Museums Authority’s Public Art Department and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to decorate the four underground tunnels on Salwa Road.

The four-month “calligraffiti” murals project is part of the big Salwa Road project, which is a significant upgrade to the existing road that will deliver four lanes in each direction with continuous service roads. Each of the four tunnels will be painted with specific and unique themes inspired by anecdotes from Qatari culture and markers of Qatari life.
Born to Tunisian parents, eL Seed grew up in France and started spray painting in late 90’s.
