8 ways to entertain yourself during Eid Al-Fitr in Qatar
What are you doing this Eid? A question everyone seems to be asking.
If you are staying back during the holidays, here are some suggestions that would help you plan your next few days…
- Don’t miss the celebrations.
The Qatar Tourism Authority is gearing up to launch the Eid Festival that will encompass a variety of entertainment programmes across different venues in the country. These include: paragliding tours by the Qatar Air Sport Committee at Ehtefalat street from 3pm-6.30pm; an entertainment city called Wanasa at the Doha Exhibition Centre; fireworks at Katara at 7.30pm; musical shows at Al Rayyan Theatre in Souq Waqif.
Most of the malls in Qatar are also part of the festival. So expect free live entertainment shows, acrobats, mascots, musicians and a variety of performers while you are out shopping.
QTA will be announcing more details soon on their Facebook Page.
- Keep kids busy.
There’s the Barney & Friends live show at The Gate Mall till 10 August. There will be four shows per day during Eid – 12noon, 4pm, 7pm and 9pm. More details can be found on their Facebook Page.
Hyatt Plaza’s Jungle Zone has added a couple of new attractions such as a 7D theatre, exciting rides, and video and redemption games that will be in operation from 8 August. During Eid, the Jungle Zone will be open from 10am-12am (Friday: 1pm-12am). Call 44999699 for any queries.
- Dune bashing.
Qatar’s golden dunes are a popular spot for campers during Eid. There are several local operators who offer half or full day desert safaris. Some even include an overnight stay. Contact Qatar Ventures or Qatar inbound Tours to find a suitable itinerary.
But be very careful when going dune bashing. The fun sport can be dangerous and has caused deaths and injuries among reckless drivers, especially those riding All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). According to figures from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), there are about 70 severe ATV-related-injury cases a year.

HMC has stationed four new 4X4s at the Ambulance Service’s bases in Sealine and Khor Al Udeid to step up emergency services at these sites.
- It’s summer. Take a dip.
Aqua Park seems to be a hit with the park receiving its 50,000th visitor for this year in July. During Eid, it will be open from 10am-10pm. Tickets are priced for QR100 per head. Free entry for children below three years of age. Call 44905872/73/78 for any queries or visit their Facebook page.
Otherwise you can always head to the beach. The beaches in Wakrah, Al Khor or Simaisma are free of charge. But others like the one at Katara or the private beaches of hotels such as InterContinental or Hilton do have entry charges. Give them a ring before you go.
If kids are accompanying you, make sure they are constantly adult supervision. HMC receives nearly 25-30 near-drowning and drowning patients every year out of which 90% are children under 10 years of age.
