Work begins on East West Corridor; Links new airport to southern parts of Doha
Work has begun on the new expressway project, the East West Corridor, that will provide strategic links with the southern part of the city and connect the new Orbital Highway to the new Hamad International Airport.
The roads of the Corridor will feature five lanes in each direction stretching from west of Barwa City , to Al Matar Street south of the Air Force Roundabout, Ashghal announced in a press statement.
Eight interchanges have been designed along the length of the expressway. These comprise:
East West Corridor/ West Industrial Street Interchange: 2-level interchange with East IndustrialRoad at grade and West Industrial Street as flyover connecting the New Industrial area with the planned Qatar Logistics Village.
East West Corridor/ East Industrial Street Interchange: 2-level semi-directional interchange with East Industrial Road at grade and East Industrial Street as flyover, providing better connectivity between the Industrial area and the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route, connecting it the New Doha Port.
East West Corridor/ Al Aziziya Extension Interchange: 2-level interchange with East Industrial Road at grade and Al Aziziya Extension as Flyover
East West Corridor/ Barwa Access Road Interchange: 2-level modified semi-directional interchange with East Industrial Road at grade and Barwa Access Road as flyover moving from Barwa city to South
East West Corridor/ Al Wakrah Bypass Interchange: Connecting Wakrah bypass with 22February Street this will be a 4-level all directional four-leg interchangewith the East West Corridor’s main line dropped to grade-1 to allow free flowing traffic, and Al-Wakrah bypass as a bridge at grade level.
East West Corridor/ Najma Street Extension Interchange: 2-level over bridge interchange with East Industrial Road at grade and Najma Street Extension as flyover
East West Corridor/ New Industrial Area Road Interchange: 2-level interchange with East Industrial Road at grade and New Industrial Area Road as flyover connecting the New Industrial area with a newly planned logistics area.
East West Corridor/ Al Matar Street Interchange: 2-level interchange with East Industrial Road at grade and Al Matar Street as flyover connecting Al Wakrah to downtown
The project will also feature:
- Artscape and landscape works including plantation of over 3000 trees, 128,000 shrubs and 140,000 square meters of grass.
- Pedestrian pathways
- Cycle paths
- 6000 street lights to be installed along the roads
- Intelligent Transport System
- Storm water drainage system
