Traffic surveillance cameras to keep check on violators
Surveillance cameras have been installed in 33 major junctions in the country, in order to manage traffic better. According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, 15 more intersections will be covered in the next phase of the project.
The CCTV cameras will provide 24-hour footage of traffic intersections to control rooms that will help patrol teams to reach the area immediately and clear traffic congestion. It would also help in monitoring traffic rule violations by motorists and accident at these junctions.
The traffic management project was launched by the Security Systems Department together with Ashgal. But authorities say it won’t be used for security surveillance.
The list of junctions has not been shared yet.
