Three-storey Souq Waqif underground car parking opens today
Those cribbing about parking at Souq Waqif can finally rejoice. The multi-level Souq Waqif underground car parking facility opens to public today, The Peninsula has reported.
The facility has been constructed underground, in the former spot of the Capital Police office, opposite the Corniche. It spans an area of 113,500 sqm and can accommodate up to 2,000 cars at a time.
According to the report in the daily, the facility features a number of amenities above the ground such as a public park, an open theatre, restaurants, fountains and other entertainment venues.
In addition to the new facility, there are four parking lots that visitors have access to:
- The underground parking facility just across Souq Waqif near Emiri Diwan which accommodates 750 cars at a time.
- The parking lot facing Msheireb, and the other facing the Fanar Mosque which together accommodate 740 cars at a time. These are paid parking spots that charge QR5 for the first hour, and QR3 for every subsequent hour.
- The Souq Najada car parking facility that can accommodate 600 cars.
