Are schools in Qatar re-opening on September 10? Some are, some not.
Though Supreme Education Council (SEC) has announced that September 10 will be the reopening date for private and independent schools in Qatar, a few expatriate schools would open earlier.
JustHere rang up a couple of schools check on their reopening dates. While Qatar International School opens on September 8, the American School of Doha reopened much earlier, on August 26.
Two Indian Schools, the Birla Public School and Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS) said they planned to open on September 8 and 9 respectively. “We haven’t been informed of any change yet by the management. If the reopening is postponed, we will announce it on the website. Parents will be informed the same through SMS,” said a staff member at DMIS.
Meanwhile, Compass International School (CIS) and Park House English School have changed their dates to September 10 following SEC’s announcement. The induction day for new students will however be held on September 9. “We have already announced the new reopening date on our website. We have also mailed parents about the change in date,” said a staff member at CIS.
According to a report in The Peninsula, this year’s summer break was the longest with over 70 days for most schools. Though SEC plans to unify holidays of all independent and private schools in the country, not all expatriate schools follow the same dates.
