More schools to be built in the city; 33 schools and KGs to be ready by next academic year
By the beginning of the next academic year (2015-2016), 33 new schools and KGs will be made available, Ashghal has announced. In addition, the Public Works Authority has also signed contracts worth QR1.2bn to build 17 new schools and six kindergartens.
According to a report in The Peninsula, each of the new schools occupy an area of 9,159sqm and consists of a two-storey building that can accommodate around 650 students in 25 classes. Some of the facilities in the schools include: a multipurpose hall, chemistry, physics and biology labs, two computer rooms, two arts studios, a language room and an administrative office.
Meanwhile, the kindergartens have been designed to accommodate 240 children in 12 classrooms. The building comprises shaded playgrounds, special rooms for music, language and computer, as well as a library, classrooms and outdoor spaces.
The schools have been designed in strict compliance with the Qatari construction code to make them highly accessible to people with special needs.
The 17 new schools will be built in a wide range of locations across the country. These include: Al Rayyan, Al Wajbah, Al Kaaban, Al Dhakira, Al Karaana, Al Shahaniya, Onaiza, Al Ruwais, Mesaieed, Mesaimeer, Umm Al Saneem, Nuaija, Hazm Al Markhiya, Al Messila, Umm Ghuwailina, Al Dhakira, and Wadi Al Banat.
