Report: Nikki Beach scraps plans for opening resort at The Pearl-Qatar
Nikki Beach, the famous luxury beach club brand based in Miami, has dropped plans to launch its first resort in the Middle East in Doha.
The Pearl Nikki Beach Resort & Spa was scheduled to open in 2012 at The Pearl-Qatar, but will now be launched in the UAE instead, the Arabian Business has reported. Though no official reason has been cited, the alcohol ban on the Island is mostly likely to have caused the brand to reconsider its decision. (Read full report here.)
Many of the restaurants operating at the man-made island have reported a decline in business following the ban on alcohol. Recently, Guy Savoy announced its closure on November 21, as reported by Doha News.
However, earlier this month, Kempinski announced the opening of its flagship resort at The Pearl-Qatar, Marsa Malaz Kempinski, on December 1. The hotel appears to have been exempted from the alcohol ban, as the property features three bars as part of its food and beverage outlets. For more information, visit their website.
