QITCOM 2014: Day 1
QNL offers free access to online resources
Sign up to become a member of the Qatar National Library (QNL) at its booth (B54). All you need to do is present your Qatar ID card and you will receive an email from them the following day containing a username and password. This username and password will permit you access to a world of online research resources which includes research and academic journals. The library is currently under construction, so as a member you will be allowed to borrow books and other materials from the library’s vast collection once it is officially open. It is estimated to open in one year as per officials at the QNL.
MICT aims to get more residents digitally involved through its new programme
MICT (formerly known as ictQatar) is presenting its ‘Digital Inclusion Society’ program through which it aims to allow different communities within Qatar to be more digitally involved, without having to rely on Doha for most things. At present, they are beginning this five-year project with the residents of the township of Simaisma. As part of this initiative, MICT has set up wi-fi in public areas around Simaisma – beaches, the community centre as well as the parks. They are also trying to facilitate an intergenerational learning program to help people to learn about internet usage and digital devices.
In addition, MICT is also launching a program to educate workers in Qatar about how to use the internet and other digital devices. MICT will reveal more about this program tomorrow, Tuesday, May 27 at their booth at QITCOM 2014. Stay tuned!
