QAWS final countdown; But, there’s more to be done
Come September 30, and the Qatar Animal Welfare Society will cease to exist.
The shelter that has been running in 2004 has not been able to find a new premise, and will be forced to vacate by the end of this month.
Here are a few stats…
- HOMES REQUIRED:
Over 180 animals are yet to find a new home. These include 90 dogs, 25 cats, 17 rabbits, 3 goats, 2 donkeys and 1 cow.
Over the summer 20 cats and 20 dogs were adopted.
- GOODBYE QATAR:
9 dogs have found new homes overseas. For this QAWS is looking for ‘flight buddies’ who will be travelling to US, Canada or Europe any time soon to help in the shipping of these pets.
- FAREWELL EMPLOYEES:
The 3 paid workers who were working fulltime on the farm have now got new jobs.
QR10,000 was the monthly rent of the premise. However, ever since the rent contract expired on May 31, QAWS has been paying a penalty of QR17,000 for outstaying. It had received a one-month reprieve till June 30.
QR45,000 is the outstanding amount that QAWS has to pay the Qatar Veterinary Centre for which it is seeking donations at the moment.
- HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Attend the Hakuna Matata – Happy Pets weekend fundraiser to be held 20-21 September from 11am-4pm and help them raise QR7,000 for QAWS relocation to 2nd Chance Rescue. For more details visit their Facebook Page.
