Qatar’s not a cheap place to live in

Qatar’s not a cheap place to live in

The Qatar Statistics Authority reported a Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate of 0.40% in March compared to February 2013. Qatar’s facing an average inflation of between 4% and 5%.

Some sectors in particular where costs have gone up include house rent, fuel, energy, telecommunications, food, beverages as well as transport, communication, and entertainment.

A resident of Qatar who lives with her family in Al Gharaffa mentions that her rent may possibly face an increase as her lease approaches its renewal soon. “Many of our neighbours who have recently renewed their leases are now paying higher rents. So a rent hike is inevitable for us too. Our household expenses have also been going through the roof. Most of the increases are minor but when you add them up, that’s a big number right there” she commented.

Some other consumers around Qatar also shared their stories with us.

Here’s what we asked them.

This is what they told us.
