Qatar Summer Festival receives a mixed response from residents
The Qatar Summer Festival that runs until the end of August has met with a mixed response from residents. Many have complained that the festival’s activities cater to mainly children, leaving other age groups behind, according to a report in The Peninsula.
Another issue raised was that the festival’s various events were hosted in selected venues such as shopping complexes, instead of larger public spaces. Moreover, due to the lack of publicity about the event, many residents were completely unaware of the on-going festivities, the report further stated.
One of the festival’s major attraction is the Entertainment City set up at the Doha Exhibition Centre that includes various gaming activities and live shows. The festival also includes weekly raffle draws and retail promotions across malls in Qatar. Furthermore, Qatar Tourism Authority has also announced two live concerts to be held in the last week of August. Popular Arab artists including Yemeni- half Emirati artist Balqis Fathy, Saudi artiste Rabeh Saqr, Asala Nasry and Moroccan star Saad Lamjared are said to perform.
