Qatar is the region’s second best travel and tourism hub, after UAE

Qatar is the region’s second best travel and tourism hub, after UAE

Qatar may be termed as one of the least friendly (to tourists) countries in the world. However, in the overall rankings of the travel and tourism competitiveness survey by the World Economic Forum, it features quite high at 41 among 140 countries.

Last year, Forbes had named Qatar as one of the most challenging countries for expats as well. But in the latest survey by the World Economic Forum, the country scored a decent 5.8 out of 7 when it came to ‘How welcome are foreign visitors in your country?’ Region wise, Qatar comes second after UAE, followed by Israel, Bahrain and Oman. The top five countries in the survey are Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Spain and the UK.

According to the survey, some of the factors that weigh in favour of Qatar are safety and security, good ICT & tourism infrastructure, excellent air transport infrastructure and a high quality pool of human resources. However, Qatar scores less in the environmental sustainability sector, placing the country at the 59th position. The chart below shows where Qatar stands among 140 countries based on the 14 indicators of the Travel & tourism Competiveness Index.
