Prices of 457 medicines slashed in Qatar
The Supreme Council of Health has announced the reduction of prices of about 457 medicines across all pharmacies in Qatar.
According to Gulf Times, the reduction of prices ranges between 79.25% and 0.45%. The medicines included in the reduction comprise those for common chronic diseases such as cardiovascular, endocrine, musculoskeletal, skin, and gastrointestinal diseases.
The SCH has also announced the reduction of another 1,820 medicines in the second half of the year. These medicines include those for nervous system diseases, obstetrics and gynaecology diseases, infectious diseases, ear, nose and throat diseases, medical lotions and vitamins, respiratory system diseases, anaesthetics, tumors and cancers, immunity diseases, and eye diseases.
The initiative to reduce prices of medicines comes is a result of the decision passed by the GCC Supreme Council in 2006 to unify the import price for medicines among the GCC countries to provide high quality medicines at affordable prices.
