Preparing for The Color Run in Qatar? These smartphone apps are the perfect running companions
With The Color Run™ presented by Your Health First coming to Qatar on January 24th, the Happiest 5k on the Planet where color powder and fun trumps all, here are some great apps to keep you company as you run, walk or cartwheel through The Color RunTM course at Qatar National Convention Centre.
There is nothing quite like a zombie apocalypse to truly add a bit of excitement to your runs and thankfully the makers of the Zombies, Run! app have stepped in to fill the market gap. While it has all the staples of a running app (like distance covered and time elapsed) the app constantly reminds you by audio that the zombies are hot on your trail. The app also includes a story and specific missions that you achieve by working out, making a run into something a little more exciting.
Much like the usual running apps, Endomodo also tracks time and distance but adds a friendly social media touch to your workouts. Friends can see your progress in real-time and offer words of encouragement that the app turns into audio to give you that extra push when you need it.
If you get tired of updating your music constantly and get bored on runs easily then RockMyRun is exactly the app that you didn’t know you were looking for. The app offers plenty of awesome running music playlists that you can sort based on the length of your workout or even by beats per minute if you don’t want the music to throw off your pace.
Giving your body the right nutrition is not just important for runners. Calorie Counter is the quintessential health app that does it all and with an astounding 4 million foods in its database, you can track exactly what you’re fuelling your body with. The app also allows you to set weight-loss goals, track your exercises (over 350 of them) and share it all with friends to keep you motivated and on track.
The perfect app for complete beginners, the Couch-to-5k app will set up a run plan for you so that you can achieve your goals without any risk of injury. Along with the usual distance and time tracking, the app comes with a virtual coach that speaks to you about your workout – a welcome addition to any run.

While you probably already have these apps installed on your phone, no run is quite as fun without sharing it with your friends and family – especially true of The Color RunTM, which is more about sharing experiences and having fun than it is about clocking a killer time. Take your phone with you on January 24th to capture some amazing, colorful snaps and help The Color RunTM presented by Your Health First spread happiness across Qatar![boxify cols_use =”1″ cols =”1″ position =”none” order =”none” box_spacing =”10″ padding =”10″ background_color =”#3c3c3c” border_style =”solid” ]
Now that your phone is fully loaded, it’s time to put it to good use.
The Color RunTM comes to the Qatar National Convention Centre on January 24th, 2015 with the help of the Sahtak Awalan: Your Health First campaign.
Less about a 10-minute-mile and more about having the time of your life, The Color RunTM is a five-kilometre, un-timed fun run where participants – or ‘Color Runners’ – can run, walk, dance and cartwheel their way round the course under a shower of colored powder. The fun continues at the finish line with a gigantic Finish Festival featuring music, dancing and massive color throws to create happiness and lasting memories.
Entries cost QR140 and include a The Color RunTM pack with a t-shirt, headband and loads of other goodies.[/boxify]
