Opening of new intersection on Corniche streets to ease traffic flow
The newly built signal-controlled intersection on the Corniche Street between the Emiri Diwan and the National Theatre is now open for traffic.
The new intersection will enable Corniche Street users coming from Al Diwan Intersection towards the National Theatre Intersection to either make left-hand turns onto Al Rumailah Street or U-turns to the other side of the street opposite of Al Corniche Street, without the need to continue until the National Theatre Intersection then make a U-turn. This will significantly reduce traffic congestion at the National Theatre Intersection
The expansion works included the construction of an additional lane on the left side of Al Corniche Street, for a distance of 375m towards National Theatre Intersection. This will enable vehicles to turn left towards Mohammed bin Thani Street by using three lanes instead of two. Works also included widening the road and making it three lanes instead of two for a distance of 475m for vehicles coming from Majlis Al Taawon Street and going right onto Mohammed bin Thani Street and right onto Al Corniche Street.
An additional lane was also built on part of Mohammed bin Thani Street heading right towards Majlis Al Taawon Street, to become two lanes instead of one for a distance of 230m. This is in addition to the construction of a new lane on Mohammed bin Thani Street, from its intersection with Majlis Al Taawon Street for a distance of about 50m.
