Ooredoo customers irked by the rising number of spam calls
Ooredoo has advised customers to be wary of ‘spam calls’ from unknown numbers who dupe residents into sharing personal or monetary information.
According to a report in The Peninsula, several residents have complained about receiving calls from local numbers who claim to be representing Ooredoo, falsely declaring customers as winners of a major competition. The caller would then ask the customer to “send the numbers of Hala top-up vouchers as a processing fee”.
However, Ooredoo has assured that no such competition was taking place. The report quotes Director, Community and Public Relations, Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari, as: “We are aware of issues relating to fraudulent calls, and doing everything we can to locate the source of the problem and prevent it from happening. We ask customers to be cautious when receiving such calls and never share personal information or financial details.”
Ooredoo has launched a “Block List” app that enables customers to block local numbers. The app is available for free via Google or iTunes Store.
