New law makes salary transfers to bank accounts mandatory for employers
A new law issued by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has now made it mandatory for employers to transfer workers’ salary to their bank accounts at any of the financial institutions in the country.
According to a report in the Gulf Times, the new Law No 1 of 2015 makes certain amendments to the existing Law No 14 of 2004. As per Article No 2 of the new law, which replaces Article 66 of Law No 14 of 2004, the payment of salary and other amounts due to the worker will be in the Qatari currency.
The law further states that workers shall be paid at least once a month or once every two weeks on the basis of their contract. Moreover, employers much ensure that the salary has been properly transferred to the bank accounts that enable workers to withdraw it at the designated time.
Those found violating the law will face a prison term of not more than a month and/or a fine not less than QR2,000 and not exceeding QR6,000.
