New law to impose heavy penalty on those found wasting electricity and water in Qatar
A new legislation against wastage of energy and water resources is in the making that would impose heavy penalty on violators. Authorities would also ban the import of high energy-consuming equipment, Gulf Times has reported.
The legislation is part of the Tarsheed 22 (T22) campaign that was launched by Kahramaa, in collaboration with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC). The campaign aims to promote awareness on energy conservation among the youth of Qatar by utilising their passion for football. As a result, the campaign is being launched in 22 independent schools located near the 2022 FIFA World Cup venues across the country.
Participating schools will receive “an energy audit and upgrades to water and electrical fixtures to decrease consumption through faucet aerators and energy-saving bulbs,” Gulf Times has further reported.
Through the T22 campaign, officials hope to reduce energy consumption in Qatar by about 25%.
