More female nationals in the workforce than in other GCC states
In the dismal state of affairs for women in the Arab world, Qatar shows promise with 35% of Qatari women joining the workforce, 73% of whom were in the public sector.
Saudi Arabic at 17% is the lowest in the region, and the Arab world at 27% is the lowest in the world.

At the 8th World Chambers Congress, ‘Women in Business in the Arab World’ Forum Head, Haifa Fahoum Al Kaylani revealed that women’s participation in the GCC economy alone is only 19.2% though they constitute 48% of the population in the region.
Despite Qatar performing better than other countries in the region, there is still severe gender-based pay disparity.
The labour force statistics for the year 2012 released by the Qatar Statistics Authority showed that on an average men earn 16% to 45% more than women. Click here to read the full report.
