Ministry mandates car distributors to obtain signed statements from customers
According to a new circular by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, all car dealers in the country will be required to obtain a signed statement from customers to ensure they are made aware of the repairs carried out in the car.
This move has been implemented to ensure car agents comply with the Consumer Protection law in the country, that makes it mandatory for “the supplier of any commodity to give all the related information the buyer”, the Gulf Times has reported.
Car dealers have been urged to report to customers every single modification done to the car at the time of purchase. Customers must also be informed if the car was involved in any accidents or bore any defects while manufacturing.
A signed consent from customers was necessary to prevent any legal issues in the future, the Ministry has said. Car dealers found violating this law would face various penalties including closure of showrooms or offices.
