Italian para-athlete Giusy Versace in Doha, endorses Save the Dream initiative
Italian track runner and para-athlete, Giusy Versace, is in Doha on a four-day visit to raise awareness of disability sport in the country.
Addressing the media during a special presentation, Giusy spoke about how she overcame her disabilities through sports.
Guisy lost both her legs in a car accident in 2005. However, that didn’t deter her from building a career in sports. She went on to win several national gold medals and has an Italian record to her name. She is also the President of ‘Disability no Limits’ – a non-profit organisation that raises funds to aid needy people with disabilities.
“Following my accident in 2005, sport gave me the opportunity to rebuild my life and has played a major role in making me the person I am today,” she said in a statement.
Also supporting the Save the Dream initiative by the International Centre for Sports Security (ICSS) , Giusy said such initiatives would help inspire the youth around the world to engage in sports. “It is vital that programmes like this continue to reach out to young people and educate them about how physical activity, sport and fair competition can enrich their lives.”
The Save the Dream initiative was launched in March last year, by ICSS in association with Qatar Olympic Committee, to promote and protect integrity and ethics in young players around the world.
