How much do your schooling expenses come to?

How much do your schooling expenses come to?

On a monthly average you would be paying QR10,208, according to the eight Annual Report on Education in Schools in Qatar published by the Evaluation Institute of the Supreme Education Council (SEC). This report includes only the cost of education in independent private Arabic and international schools in Qatar.

In JustHere’s series on the education scene in Qatar, we looked at the fee structure of some of the popular schools in Qatar. Click here for the full article.

But are school fees the only fees that you pay? A study conducted by the Doha-based Social and Economic Survey Research Institute in 2011 stated that around 40% of Qatar’s total student population takes private lessons to prepare for the exams. Read JustHere’s article on private tuitions here.

Below is the average annual cost that parents spend on private tuitions per child for an academic year:

Independent schools QR8,000
International schools QR14,000
Private Arabic schools QR3,000

At WHAT international schools? My daughter has been to two international schools in Qatar, and the one that was too mediocre to stand was nearly 25K a year! The one she is at now (which is, admittedly, at the high end of the scale– but provides a level of education and safety we are comfortable with) is nearly 70K! Still, unless you have a LOT of international schools charging next to nothing, I find it VERY hard to believe that the average is 14K.
