Health insurance coverage for all Qataris by April 30

Health insurance coverage for all Qataris by April 30

Starting April 30, all Qatari citizens will have health insurance coverage for their basic health needs through the National Health Insurance Company’s scheme. The scheme will now be called Seha under a new corporate identity, which means ‘health’ in Arabic, the National Health Insurance Company announced in a press conference today. This health insurance scheme was first announced in June 2013 and its first stage covered only Qatari women.

Under the scheme’s second phase, Qatari men and women of all ages will receive comprehensive health insurance coverage through a network of quality health providers in Qatar. This includes both in and outpatient services including preventative care, emergency treatment, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, long-term care, radiology, ophthalmology, laboratory testing as well as prescription medicines.

Its first phase, covering Qatari women aged 12 years and over for gynaecology, obstetrics, maternity and related women’s health issues, was rolled out in July of the same year and was availed by nearly 5000 women.

Seha’s provider network currently consists of eight public and private hospitals and health clinics: Al Emadi Hospital, HMC Women’s Hospital, Al Ahli Hospital, Doha Clinic, Al Wakra Hospital, Al Khor Hospital, the Cuban Hospital and Al Hayat Medical Centre. However, the NHIC will announce an updated list of hospitals and health centres for Stage 2 soon.
