A giant yellow bear and a herd of Oryx head to the Hamad International Airport

A series of art works will be greeting passengers at the Hamad International Airport over the year.

These public art installations is part of Qatar Museums Authority’s collaboration with the NDIA Steering Committee that will feature works by local, regional and international in key locations in and around the airport, announced QMA in a statement.
The airport is scheduled to start services tomorrow, April 30, with 10 low cost airlines.

The ‘Lamp Bear’ by Swiss artist Urs Fischer is the first to be unveiled, and will be located at the centre of the airport. Then there’s a series of sculptures of the “Oryx” by Dutch artist Tom Claassen that will be placed at the Arrivals hall. Other artists whose works are to be featured include: Adel Abdessemed, Dia Azzawi, Ahmed Al Bahrani, Maurizio Cattelan, Don Gummer, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer, Tom Otterness, Marc Quinn, Anselm Reyle, Rudolf Stingel and Bill Viola.

In addition to art works, there will be photographs of local artists Mohammad Al Misnad, Hussein Mohammad Al Shafei, Sarah Abd Al Majed and Arioseto Kusuma Adi on permanent display in the departure hall. A QMA store and café will also be set up within the airport.
