Corniche part closure begins tonight

Work begins to convert the Sheraton Roundabout into an intersection, for which Ashghal has announced the temporary closure of the Corniche street from the roundabout to the Post Office Signal from tonight (February 27) until the night of Saturday-Sunday (March 8-9).

The traffic will be diverted as follows:

  • Traffic from Dafna R/A and City Center going towards Sheraton will have to go right to Al-Funduq street and use alternative roads to reach the Corniche Street, or take Majlis Al-Taawon street.
  • Traffic on Majlis Al-Taawon street will have to take Omar Al Mukhtar street, then go right towards Dafna R/A.
  • Traffic on Al-Funduq street going towards Sheraton R/A will have to go right in front of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, and follow the directional signs to reach the Corniche Street.

The on-going construction work on the Corniche Street also involves developing three lane dual carriageways along the street, including three lanes towards City Centre Mall and three lanes towards Omar Al Mukhtar Street. In addition, a signalised pedestrian crossing will be built between the two intersections to provide easy access to the new Qatar International Exhibition Centre and other buildings in the vicinity.
