Call 998 and do your part in saving Al Messila Tree Farm

The cutting down of trees at Al Messila Forest and destruction of its thriving ecosystem is garnering much criticism over social media. Initiated by Qatari environmental activist Khalid Al Mohannadi, this campaign to save the 132,000 square metres of rich green cover requires support from all residents of Qatar if complete deforestation has to be stopped.

If you are a resident of Qatar who believes that this must be stopped, please call the Ministry of Environment at 998 to inform and petition against this move.

“If you live on this land, you can participate,” says Al Mohannadi, who is also seeking legal help to protect this rare bit of greenery in Doha.

Over 1100 indigenous trees are being cut down (read our earlier story here) at Al Messila to accommodate the Al Messila VIP Resort project that will include a luxury resort and villas alongside.

Unii Engineering Consultancy, one of the companies managing the project in Doha has removed the Al Messila Resort project from the list of their projects since this issue became a public debate last week and refused to provide any comment when JustHere spoke to them.

This uproar on social media is not the first of its kind; last year, Aisha Al Thani petitioned to take down artist Adel Abdessemed’s works pertaining to cruelty towards animals. This petition was directed at Chairperson of Qatar Museums (formerly Qatar Museums Authority), HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and it received more than 10,000 signatures – cyber-activism at its most popular in Qatar.
