Blatter: We cannot play the World Cup 2022 in summer
Amid speculations regarding the dates of the World Cup 2022 in Qatar, FIFA President Sepp Blatter said he preferred if the games were held end of the year.
The World Cup has been traditionally held in June/July. However, given Qatar’s searing temperatures in those months, the FIFA President believes it would be best if the World Cup were moved to the cooler winter months.
The only concern with switching the dates of the World Cup to the beginning of the year would be its clash with the Winter Olympics. In addition, Europe’s top football leagues have also expressed caution over switching dates, as it would impact the international football calendar around the world.
