Over 75,000 visitors flocked to Qatar during Eid Festival last year; new GCC campaign to increase numbers
The largest source of GCC visitors to Qatar is Saudi Arabia, with at least 188,621 tourists visiting the country by the first quarter of 2014.
The total GCC visitors increased by 5%, while world-wide visitors rose by 26% in the same period, tourism data by Qatar Tourism Authority has revealed. Meanwhile, the percentage of Kuwaiti visitors alone increased by 42%.
One of the main attractions in the country during the year is QTA’s annual ‘Eid Festival’. Last year, over 75,000 people visited Qatar during the Eid Festival. This time, a region-wide advertising campaign has been launched to further escalate tourist numbers.
What to expect?
- The Eid Festival 2014 will be a seven-day affair beginning on the first day of Eid.
- Participating bodies will include: the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage; Katara Cultural Village; Souq Waqif; The Pearl-Qatar; Qatar Shooting and Archery Association; Lusail Circuit; Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve; Al Rayyan Radio; and Aqua Park Qatar.
- There will be a variety of entertainment activities even in malls. These include: Hyatt Plaza, City Center Doha, Landmark, Al Khor Mall, Lagoona Mall, and The Mall.
- Some of the events include: a Ukranian circus, Tour of Imam Mohammad bin Abdul Wahab Mosque, Souq Waqif Entertainment Tent, Aerial Paragliding Tour and Traditional Qatari shows, among many others.
