Only 38% of Qataris use Facebook; Instagram and Whatsapp are preferred social media channels
According to a recent online survey, the number of users of Facebook in Qatar has dropped from 91% in 2013 to 82% in 2014, Gulf Times has reported.
Tough still counted as the most popular social media channel, its usage among Qataris was considerably low. Only 38% of Qatari participants used Facebook, as Instagram and Whatsapp are now becoming their preferred choice of social media channel, followed by Twitter and Snapchat. In fact, Snapchat has seen an increase of up to 54% in usage among Qataris.
The survey titled ‘State of the Net 2014’ showed that about 80% of participants spend three hours or more per day on the Internet. From these, 91% of Qatari female respondents said their spend three or more hours per day on internet, as compared to the 69% in 2013.
The number of internet shoppers in Qatar was also shown to increase by 12%. Currently, almost 50% of respondents said they have purchased online.
