[UPDATED] Only 20 registrations received for conservation competition; Karhamaa extends deadline to March 9
Only 20 companies have registered for the 2014 edition of Kahramaa’s Conserving Building Competition, so far.
Registrations for the second edition of the competition opened on February 3. Speaking to JustHere, Kahramaa officials said they had received 20 valid applications, four from each of the five sectors – governmental, industrial, commercial, residential and sports venues. Registration was to close on February 28, 2014.
Like last year, the participating buildings will be evaluated based on specific parameters such as: Mechanical Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) systems in all buildings which in turn includes HVAC System, lighting, plumbing fixtures, landscape, motion sensors, and BMS.
Consumers installing energy and water saving devices and adopting operational measures will be rewarded. The award includes a citation and a certificate recognising their effort in conservation that will be presented during the Tarsheed National Programme 2nd Annual Celebration coinciding with KAHRAMAA’s celebration of Earth Day as well on April 22, 2014.
“The award will be a recognition for innovations and achievement for efficient utilisation among a variety of consumers. This aims to create healthy enthusiasm among consumers and general public to adopt conservation measures,” officials told JustHere.
Last year, Ras Gas headquarters, Al Majaz building number 3, Ministry of Business and Trade headquarters and the residence of Abdul Razaq Abubakar Al Muslih won the first prize in industrial, commercial, governmental and residential categories, respectively.
Any building falling under the five aforementioned sectors are eligible to participate, except villas with conventional window air conditioner and flood irrigation system.
According to the competition’s terms and conditions mentioned on the website, participants are required to provide all necessary as-built drawings with equipment schedule for the building, These include: site plan, sectional elevation depicting room height, plumbing, electrical, air-conditioning & ventilation, etc.
“For major consumers of electricity and water like commercial establishment or high-rise buildings the information as stated in the criteria is essential to ascertain the consumption scenario and to verify optimum utilisation of electricity and water by the facility management.
“For consumers unable to provide this information at the time of application or not in possession of such information can give a narrative of conservation measures in the application itself. The same will be verified by direct interaction and site verification by Kahramaa. The Electricity and Water saving measures adopted by a prospective consumer/tenant need to be essentially understood by them and shall be furnished for assessment,” added the officials.
The registration for the competition will now be extended until March 9, 2014 to give more chance for other promising Buildings, Kahramaa officials have confirmed to JustHere. “Sports venues are participating for the first time with representatives of Qatari famous renovated sports club & one new sports building. This comes as part of Kahramaa’s encouragement of Qatar’s readiness to host Football World Cup 2022 & encouragement of sports development as a whole. This cooperation is embodied in MOUs with QSL & QOC.”
