For the first half of 2015, Qatar received a 7% increase in foreign visitors as compared to the same period last year. Majority of visitors comprised GCC residents, representing a 16% increase since last year.

The figures were issued by the Qatar Tourism Authority in its Mid-Year Tourism Performance Report for 2015. The report, as published in Gulf Times, highlights Qatar’s progress in expanding its tourism sector. The country is expected to receive 3 million visitors by end of this year as it seeks to achieve a target of 7 million visitors by 2030.

From the GCC region, a large percentage of visitors arrived from Saudi Arabia, representing a 25% increase since last year. Meanwhile, the countries outside of GCC that had the maximum number of tourists included France, China and the USA.

The total arrivals were highest in the months of January and March, the report states. The percentage dropped during the month of Ramadan by 8% as compared to the same period last year.
