QIC: Homecare insurance is important despite Qatar’s low crime rate

QIC: Homecare insurance is important despite Qatar’s low crime rate

Though the crime rate in Qatar is fairly low, it is always beneficial to secure a home insurance policy, say insurance experts.

In a report by Gulf Times, QIC Group senior deputy president and CEO Ali Fadala says a large number of Qataris and expatriates own expensive accessories, artworks, antiques and other home displays which could be easily damaged by fire or flooding caused by pipe leakages. He adds: “By insuring art collection under a home insurance policy, they can protect it against any damage or burglary attempt, especially when they are travelling.”

With the summer holidays coming up soon, Fadala advises people to take the following precautions:

  • You can insure jewellery or expensive watches that you plan to carry while travelling to have them safe and in good condition. If not, keep them in a fire-resistant locker or a safe at home.
  • Expensive laptops, cameras, and television sets can be insured before you travel
  • Avoid posting details of your travel plans on social media, as the information would leak to people other than your friends and family.
  • Stop the supply of newspapers for the days you travel. A pile of newspapers outside your door is a clear hint of an empty house.
