Survey: 40% employees in Qatar are unhappy with their income; 38% did not get a raise in 2014

In a new Bayt survey, about 40% working professionals in Qatar expressed displeasure with their income. Only 4% were highly satisfied with their earnings.

The 2015 Bayt.com MENA Salary Survey also revealed that over 38% respondents said that they did not receive a raise in their salaries in 2014, The Peninsula has reported. From those who got a raise, 51% were very unhappy with the margin.

Meanwhile, more than half of the respondents are expecting a salary increase in 2015, including 33% of those who expected a raise of up to 15%. About 22% did not expect a raise for this year.

Other findings

  • 59% of respondents said they receive a basic salary with benefits; 12% are also entitled to commissions
  • 34% received a basic salary that comprised 25-50% of their monthly salary package, while for 40% their basic salary made up 51-75% of their overall monthly income.
  • 60% consider their loyalty to their company is based on the salary that they earn, unlike the 25% who don’t think so.
  • 75% of respondents receive an end-of-service gratuity, and only 3% get pension upon retirement.
  • Despite the increasing cost of living, about 74% expats are able to send a portion of their salary home. However, 19% said they were able to save nothing.
  • Also, 53% expats said they preferred the quality of life in Qatar as compared to their home country.
