Ashghal announces completion of expansion works on Al Asiri interchange and surrounding roads

The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced the completion of the expansion works on the roads leading to Al Asiri Interchange, which the Roads Maintenance Department started implementing end of 2014.

The project included the construction of a third additional east-bound carriageway from Salwa Road up to Al Asiri Interchange making the road three lanes instead of two lanes. An additional lane was also added to improve the traffic flow from east of Salwa Road going right toward the D-Rind Road (Khalifa Al Attiyah Interchange). Similarly, more lanes were added to the south bound road stretching from Al Asiri Interchange to the ground level level of the D-Ring Road parallel to Al Asiri Tunnel making the road three lanes instead of two.

The expansion works also included the construction of an additional lane on the ground level of Al Amir Street parallel to Al Asiri Tunnel and stretching south toward Al Asiri Interchange; hence increasing the number of lanes to four instead of three. As part of the expansion, an additional carriageway was also constructed to serve the traffic flow going west from Al Asiri Interchange toward Salwa Road and all the way to Al Mana Petrol Station.

The expansion works also included the completion of the three east bound carriageways from the direction of Al Asiri Interchange along Salwa Road and past the entrance to Al Qafila Street from Salwa Road. Expansion works were also completed on the east bound Al Asiri Interchange toward Jabr Bin Ahmad (Ramada) Intersection. A third carriageway was also added to the two existing carriageways.

The completed expansion works enhanced the traffic flow at Al Asiri Interchange and its vicinity and received positive feedback from road users who noticed an improvement in that region’s traffic flow.

The project also comprised increasing the number of lanes on the carriageway heading west from Salwa Road in the direction of Al Asiri Interchange to three instead of two lanes.

The 4th expansion phase comprised the construction of an additional lane to improve the traffic flow from Salwa Road toward Al Asiri Interchange and going right toward Al Amir Street, making the north bound carriageway heading from Al Asiri Interchange towards the ground level of Al Amir Street, parallel to Al Asiri Interchange, three lanes instead of two. All works of the four-phase project were completed end of March 2015.
