Ministry launches second phase of home numbering project

Ministry launches second phase of home numbering project

About 300,000 units comprising residential apartments, office units, shops and complexes will be numbered over the next two years as part of the home numbering project launched by the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning.

Called ‘Unwani’ (My Address), the project aims to number every unit in the country to make location tracking easier on GPS, The Peninsula has reported. The move could highly benefit emergency services, door-to-door postal services, or even real estate registry services, which require precise location details.

The first phase, launched in 2013, had about 125,000 buildings numbered. For the second phase, the Ministry is targeting internal portions of buildings and complexes such as apartments, offices and shops for numbering.

Upon completion, residents can locate any shop, office or residence using GPS on their smartphones.
