Do you consume tap water in Qatar? It’s as safe as bottled water says QF study

Tap water or bottled water? What’s your preferred source for consumption? A Qatar Foundation study has revealed that only 30% of the local population regularly drink tap water. A majority of the population find it safer to drink bottled water.

However, QF’s Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) has found that tap water in Qatar is as safe as bottled water, The Peninsula has reported.

The report quotes Nora Kuiper, a leading researcher on the project at QEERI, saying: “The quality of Qatar’s drinking water is very high, higher than many local consumers think.” Moreover, Qatar’s tap and bottled water production strictly follows the quality guidelines established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA).

The study also highlighted the danger of exposing bottled water to sun. Extreme heat conditions can lead to chemicals such as antimony and lead from the plastic container to leak into the drinking water, which in turn has cardiovascular effects if consumed. For this reason, consumers have often been advised to not leave bottled water in the car.
