Over 40% students in Qatar share personal information on the Internet; ictQatar launches ‘Haseen’ initiative to raise cyber safety awareness

According to a recent finding by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ictQATAR), over 40% school children in Qatar share personal details on the Internet without adult supervision.

A primary reason for this is the lack of cyber security awareness among students in Qatar, due to which ictQatar has launched a new educational programme ‘Haseen’ to tackle this issue, in collaboration with the Supreme Education Council, Gulf Times has reported.

As part of the programme, ‘Hasseen’ will address 13 cyber safety topics including inappropriate content, Internet and game addiction, mean behaviour and cyberbullying, netiquette, plagiarism, protection techniques, reputation management and social networking.

In the first phase, the initiative will be implemented across 25% of independent, international and private schools, and will target students from Grade 1 to 12. Students will be taught “how to use technologies safely, responsibly and ethically” through innovative learning tools such as animations, animated quizzes, worksheets, audio and video files and Web 2.0 tools. More schools will be added to the programme in the following phases.
