Carrefour to be key anchor store at Mall of Qatar
Mall of Qatar yesterday announced partnership with Majid Al Futtaim Carrefour that will create a 13,700sqm flagship hypermarket as a key anchor store of the new mall.
The hypermarket will introduce a new ‘market place’ concept for the first time in the Middle East as the mall continues to attract innovative new retail concepts that will make it a retail destination of choice for shoppers from Qatar and the rest of GCC.
Deal on ‘Smart Security’ system at new airport
To improve efficiency and enhance passenger safety and security, an agreement has been signed for a pilot programme to implement an innovative and advanced ‘Smart Security” system at Hamad International Airport (HIA).
It was inked by HIA, Qatar Airways (QA), Airports Council International (ACI) and International Air Transport Association (IATA).
German embassy opens upgraded visa centre
The volume of visa applications received by the German embassy increased by 173 percent, three years after the opening of CSC WorldBridge Visa Application Centre, Ambassador Angelika Storz-Chakarji has said.
“When the centre opened in May 2011, the embassy received almost 4,000 applications from Qataris and in May 2014, only three years later, the number of applications increased by 173 percent,” Storz-Chakarji said at the formal inauguration of a new visa application centre yesterday.
Indian schools cut working hours
Indian schools have announced a cut in their working hours by about one hour effective from this week or early next week in view of the soaring temperature.
The announcement follows a decision of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) reducing working hours of all Independent schools from the beginning of this month.
Four primary health centres upgraded
Four primary health centres have been renovated and upgraded with new facilities to cater to the growing population, a senior official said yesterday.
The centres in Mesaimeer, Al Rayyan, Gharaffat Al Rayyan and West Bay now have vinyl flooring, reception and pharmacy counters, nurse stations, partitions and parking shades, said Niki Georgiou, Acting Executive Director, Facilities and Engineering, Primary Healthcare Corporation (PHCC).
Health card to be integrated with ID
Many expatriate workers who don’t have health cards will benefit from the government’s plan to integrate the health card with the Qatari identity card, the Minister of Pubic Health H E Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani has said.
Speaking at an interactive session on Monday to discuss achievements of the National Health Strategy (NHS) 2011-2016, the Minister said work is progressing on three hospitals and several health centres meant exclusively for expatriate labourers.
Dusty, windy weather forecast
The weather bureau has forecast a dusty and windy weather for today and tomorrow. The bureau has said northwesterly wind with speed as high as 35 knots an hour at times, accompanied with dust, could reduce visibility to two kilometers at places. A relieving part of the weather forecast is that there could be some reprieve in heat as day maximum temperatures might come down to 40 degrees Celsius today and tomorrow. Sea waves could be as high as 10 feet at places. “The Met office calls on everyone to take necessary precaution during this weather,” a release from the bureau said yesterday.
