1% of babies born in Qatar ‘have cardiac defects’
About one out of 100 babies born in Qatar has congenital cardiac defect, said Proffessor Ziyad M Hijazi, acting chief medical officer, clinical chief paediatrics, Sidra Medical and Research Centre.
Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of the Sidra Symposium on ‘Fetal Malformation’ yesterday at Four Seasons Hotel, Hijazi pointed out that birth defects are common. “ About 23000 deliveries take place in Qatar each year on an average. It means that around  230 babies are born each year in Qatar with congenital cardiac defect.”

Taliban hopeful of reopening office in Doha
On the occasion of the first anniversary of the Taliban political office in Doha today, the Afghan Taliban have expressed their optimism about reopening their ‘temporarily shut’ office in Daffna ‘in the near future’ that will facilitate further talks with the US.
Moreover, they have highlighted the fact that the biggest achievement of the political office members in Qatar so far has been the release of their five Taliban leaders from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for one US soldier on May 31.

Ramadan: Safari offers 500 items at cost price
As part of its Ramadan offer, the Safari Group  will offer 500 consumer products at cost price and below cost at all its outlets from June 20.
“The offer the most sought–after items during the holy season as well as fresh and frozen products,” said by Safari Group Managing Director Aboobacker Madappat.
