Sri Lankan workers stranded at airport
About 25 workers from Sri Lanka, who arrived in two groups to take up jobs with two different firms in Qatar, were yesterday found to be stranded at the Hamad International Airport (HIA) for several hours as no representative of their employers turned up to receive them.

SCH event to mark three years of National Health Strategy
To mark the completion of three years of the National Health Strategy 2011-2016 (NHS), the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) will host an event for healthcare specialists on June 2.
The annual event aims to promote a greater understanding of the NHS and highlight the positive and wide-ranging transformation the strategy is bringing to health in Qatar.

Schools can seek fee hike review
Private schools unhappy with the decision of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) on their requests for a fee hike have been given time until May 29 to seek a review.
The SEC held a meeting of private school officials on Thursday to explain new procedures and criteria adopted by the SEC for deciding on fee hike requests.

Weather may get hotter today
The hot weather experienced in several parts of the country yesterday is expected to intensify a little today, according to a forecast.
The maximum temperature reported from several places in the country was 42 degrees Celsius. It would remain the same today in Mesaieed and Al Wakra, but in Doha and Al Khor mercury may touch 43 degrees. There will be a little dust in the air and some clouds, said the forecast.

Temporary facility to house Doha Zoo animals to be ready by year-end
The Rawdat al Fares Animal Containment Facility will be ready to welcome the Doha Zoo’s animals towards the end of 2014, an informed source has told Qatar Tribune.
According to the source, the construction of the facility was in full swing and was expected to be complete during the same period.
