Reduction in Qatar’s per capita consumption of electricity and water; Still a steep climb to 2016 targets

Reduction in Qatar’s per capita consumption of electricity and water; Still a steep climb to 2016 targets

In two years, the Tarsheed programme has reduced Qatar’s electricity and water per capita consumption by 10% and 6% respectively.

Tarsheed, the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, was launched on April 22, 2012 to coincide with Earth Day. The target, however, is to decrease the per capita consumption of electricity and water by 20% and 35% respectively by 2016.

Qatar’s per capita consumption of water and electricity is among the highest in the world. The water consumption is more than 500 litres per person per day, as compared to the global average consumption of 160+ litres per person per day, according to figures from Kahramaa.

Though Qatar plans to reduce its carbon footprint by 2030, empty offices in West Bay can often be spotted with lights turned on at night. Read JustHere’s full report here.
