2 mn out-of-school children receive support this year

This academic year, about 2 million out-of-school children will receive quality education through the Educate a Child (EAC) programme. By next year, the target would be 10 million.

For this, education officials from 15 EAC priority countries will be in Doha for the Second Educate A Child High-Level Ministerial Meeting to be held on April 30, 2014. The meeting will bring to the table sustainable practices to reduce the number of children in the world currently without primary education. At present the number totals up to 57 million children worldwide, according to EAC figures.
The 15 countries participating in the meeting are countries that are have not yet partnered with EAC. These include Algeria, Angola, Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, the Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania, Yemen and Zanzibar.
According to Dr. Mary Joy Pigozzi, Managing Director, EAC said, the second EAC meeting would help “support, sustain and scale efforts in these countries as well as provide models and insights for those that are beginning their association with EAC”.
EAC was launched in November 2012 by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser of Qatar, as a global programme of the Education Above All Foundation (EAA). There are currently 44 educational projects being conducted in 24 countries as part of the programme.
