Second expat in Qatar tests positive for H1N1

Last week, a young male expatriate was admitted to the Hamad General Hospital after being suspected of an h1n1 infection, and within a week, his sister too has been tested positive for the virus.

According to a report in The Peninsula, the boy was discharged after two days at the hospital, and was asked to continue medication at home. The World Health Organisation has also said that infected patients can be treated at home as the influenza is similar to any other flu.

However, the hospital has cautioned that parents should keep the infected children isolated from others at home.

Earlier in 2013, the Supreme Council of Health reported the death of a 43-year-old Qatari male due to H1N1. According to medical examinations, he was suffering from severe pneumonia and was admitted to the intensive care unit under medical supervision, but died after his condition worsened.
