Qatar prepares to go dark on March 29 for Earth Hour

It’s that day of the year again, when the Earth will go dark for an hour. Earth Hour will be celebrated this Saturday, and residents and organisations in Qatar can show their support by switching off non-essential lights from 8.30pm-9.30pm.

Here’s a look of what entities have planned to encourage residents to participate:

  • The Pearl-Qatar will unveil ‘The Trash to Treasure’ art project 2014 at the Island in association with the Qatar Green Building Council. The project gathered several volunteers from different walks of life to work together on four consecutive weekends to create a stunning 3D ‘pond’ model from waste such as bottle caps, bottles, bags, plates and spoons. In addition, several restaurants in the Island will serve dinner by the candlelight. For more information, click here.
  • Earth Hour Candlelight Pilates: This special Pilates class is being held to help you connect to your spiritual side. Open to all levels of participants.

Venue: Spa
Date: March 29, 8:30 p.m.
Cost/person: QR50
Contact: 4484 8173 or email spa.doha@ritzcarlton.com

  • During Earth Hour, Aspire Zone will use solar powered lighting to light the public football pitches and sports courts. Be fit and eco-friendly at the same time. To join the initiative, click here.
  • Glo bar at Renaissance Doha City Center Hotel will glow in darkness for an hour. Mocktails and cocktails will be available as regular. Entry is free. For more information call: 4419 6100

Other organisations in Qatar that are participating in association with companies around the world to mark Earth Hour include Ooredoo, The Torch Hotel, W Doha Hotel and St. Regis Doha.
