[STUDY] 45% Qatar residents access the Internet once a day to visit social media websites; Facebook is the most popular

About 45% residents in Qatar visit social media websites at least once a day, spending an average of 2 hours on them. From these, Qataris spent an average of 3 hours per day, while nationals aged 18-24 spent an average of 4 hours per day.

These are some of the key insights from a presentation titled ‘Social Media Use in Qatar in 2013’ that ictQatar released this month. The findings are a compilation of some popular studies conducted by Northwestern University in Qatar, Top 100 Arabs and Go Gulf.

According to the findings, Qatar has the fourth highest percentage of Facebook users in the Arab World. About 88% visit Facebook regularly, followed by Twitter with 43% users and Instagram with 17% users.

The most popular Facebook brands on Facebook include: Ooredoo Qatar with over 200,000 fans, Vodafone Qatar, Qatar Airways, Qatar Coral and QNB Group.

Among Facebook users, Arab expats comprised the highest percentage with 95%, followed by Asian expats (94%0, Westerners (90%). Meanwhile, Qatari nationals comprised only 65%. However, among Twitter users, Qatari nationals were the highest with 65%. Arab expats came in second with 49%, followed by Asian expats (27%) and Westerners (24%).
