Residents working in, living in or visiting the West Bay district can now avail of a free shuttle bus service to transport them between different spots in the area. The West Bay Bus service, initiated by the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and the Ministry of Transport, will connect tourist destinations, businesses, office and residential buildings in the area.

The Ministry initiated this service to alleviate the traffic congestion as well as to provide a solution to the parking problems that are major problems for people travelling through or around West Bay.

Operated by Mowasalat, the West Bay Bus service is described as a ‘premium’ service, but one that is open to all members of the public. It currently has a fleet of 14 air-conditioned luxury buses replete with leather seats and and internal TV system. The buses can be easily spotted with the West Bay skyline painted on them against a black and gold background. They will be operational seven days a week between 6am and midnight and will travel along two routes with 36 bus stops along the way. There will be a bus at each stop every 15 minutes.

The first route will link West Bay with City Centre, the Corniche and the General Post Office, while the second bus route will link West Bay with City Centre, Al Bidda Street and Khalifa Tennis & Squash Complex. However, all buses will stop at all major hotels, office and residential towers in West Bay. Pocket maps to this service will be available at most hotels in the area.

The service is currently in a testing phase. Although all members of the public can ride the bus during the week, families and women will be prioritized during the weekends. The West Bay Bus service is completely free in contrast to the Doha Bus, which is more of a tourist vehicle in Doha. Read JustHere’s review of the Doha Bus service.
