Branch Out: HBKU preps for TEDxEducationCity
Building on the idea of a knowledge base and the potential to do great things with that base, TedxEducationCity has set its theme – Branch Out.
The event will have six speakers discussing ideas from the perspective of a computer scientist to that of a screenwriter and even a spoken-word poet.
Registration for event, to be held on January 18, 2014, is open at www.tedxeducationcity.com. This event, to be held in the Student’s Center of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, is targeted mainly towards college students, but is open to the larger community of TEDsters.
“There is a very short registration process. It includes two questions that ask the applicant to briefly tell us about their interest in TEDxEducationCity. All registration applications will be reviewed and the purpose of the questions is to allow us to select the attendees that will benefit from our conference the most,” Ahmed Hashmi, Co-Curator of TedxEducationCity, told JustHere.
Keeping with the rules of any TEDx event, videos will also be screened at the event. What the audiences can take back are six inspiring ideas to inculcate in their lives. “Besides these, there is no limit to the number of ideas that may emerge whilst interacting with hundreds of fellow,” says Hashmi, who is a junior at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.
TEDxEducationCity aims to bring student expertise together from all Hamad Bin Khalifa University partner campuses and spread ideas across Education City and the greater Doha community. This is TedxEducationCity’s second event. In 2012, TEDxEducationCity attracted more than 500 attendees.
