Nasser Al Attiyah turns to powerboat racing, post-Olympic bronze win

Nasser Al Attiyah, bronze medal winner in skeet shooting at the Olympic Games in London in 2012, has signed on to represent Qatar in the Key West World Championships in Florida. This powerboat racing championship will be held between November 3 and 10 this year and will be Al Attiyah’s first experience with this sport.

Al Attiyah, who is a prolific shooter and rally driver with a number of regional and global titles to his credit, will team up with experienced Italian throttleman, Matteo Nicolini to drive Qatar’s SuperBoat No 613, according to a report in Gulf Times. He developed an interest in racing powerboats after seeing them at the QMSF (Qatar Marine Sports Federation), which is managed by Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al Thani, a veteran powerboat racer himself.

Al Attiyah will also be participating in the Qatar Cup in January 2014, hosted by the QMSF.
